and how 'bout that election!

Are you happy or pissed at the results???

personally I think we're all screwed over now. >.<

Obama's not going to make it four years. It's so obvious, I'm glad.

obama, is the first man in a long time whose given me faith that our goverment has a chance. naysayers can gripe and groan all they want but the fact of the matter is he's here for four years(hopefully eight) and even mccain in his concession speech asked his followers to put aside differences and support the new president elect.

Oh I wouldn't be happy that he died, just that he wouldn't be able to turn to United States into a socialist Russia.

This is the first time in...well almost a decade that we've had a democratic president, so let's see what happens. Obama appears to be a good leader and some things he has said in speeches really gace me hope. Gas prices are going down..it's a start smile

I'm unhappy still about it. My husband is a US Marine, and Democrats usually screw the military over, and without them you girlies wouln't be able to say what you say on here or anywhere else for that matter. I'm not being snotty about it, but it's true.

I totally agree! I know people who were going to join the military/army etc. and aren't now because of the outcome of the election. They're waiting the four years.

that's stupid, a true soldier wants to serve their country, not whatever administration is in office at the time.  it shouldn't matter if that's republican or democrat.

Yes, but a true soldier also wants to serve his country under someone who knows what he's doing with the military.

Exactly. You have to feel good about your Commander, and at least believe that he is going to do what's right. Democrats Cut Military pay, why would you want to join when you can DIE and get paid LESS for it??

I'm sorry, but the hardships these boys endure is well worth the little 3-4% pay raise they do see. Also, democrats don't like to support Veteran Healthcare. It's sad. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with being a Dem., but I have my reasons for being Republican.

And kelly_couture, that's rude to blatantly call it stupid. People have their reasons, so respect them.

And my husband is a Marine, not a soldier, big difference.

I agree and I TOTALLY hate it when people say something is stupid or wrong just because it's different than what they think. Especially if they don't know anything about it.

Re: and how 'bout that election!

ummm, actually i do know something about it. i may be a democrat but my older brother is a staunch republican who is just as proud be a ranger now as he was before the election. he serves his country, not whatever president gives him a pay raise. so yeah when i say it's stupid i mean it's stupid. that's my opinion. you can call it rude if you want.

Re: and how 'bout that election!

Why do so many people put faith into a party (Republican or Democrat) instead of the person?  I vote Liberatarian because I truly believe in smaller government & giving more freedom & power to each individual.  Politics & religion are so closely knit, so many people are raised to be of a certain party & are against any other party since that is what they were taught.

I am actually happy that Obama won the presidency race.  Seriously people, Obama is one of the youngest presidents ever. Reagan used to actually fall asleep at cabinet meetings an at an international summit!  Yeah, this guy was with the times, come on!

Obama is a really smart & resourceful guy.  His father left him & his mother when he was a child, he was raised by his mother's parents.  He worked to put himself through college & excelled. This was not a guy born with a silver spoon in his mouth.  Perhaps he really does have the "little people" in mind instead of the usual rich getting richer politics.

On the comment about socialism, please.  Soooo many other countries are ran differently then the US & people are so much happier then Americans are.  Do yourself a favor & watch Michael Moore's film Sicko.

Re: and how 'bout that election!

oh i'm sorry. i didn't realize that i don't understand the situation because i'm related to a soldier instead of married to one(or marine).

and by the way obama wants to cut the military budget by slowly pulling out of iraq, so that he can focus more resources and forces on afganistan, you know, where the actual terrorists are. he doesn't want any cut in military budgets. in fact with the amount that most in the military make, they'll actually benefit from Obama's tax cuts, tax cuts they didn't recieve under the bush admin.

Re: and how 'bout that election!

Military pay will be cut as well. It will more than likely happen in 2010, or by the end of the fiscal year, which is usually October for the military.

Iraq was a justified war, and there are terrorists there, ask someone who served there, more than likely a Marine, they're on the front lines.

And also by cuts that means equipment not quite up to par. I'm happy my husband already has his 2 tours knocked out, I don't want him there with cheaper gear.

And with that, I'm done on this thread. Seriously, I'd rather argue with people who are aware of current situations.

Re: and how 'bout that election!

ratrodgirl4life,

It seems the military cuts are ALL you want to discuss.  What else do you have to say about Obama being president?

Of course there will be good & bad changes & not everyone can be happy with the changes being made.  Was Mccain actually a better choice in your mind???  Your husband chose to join the military (& god bless him!) BUT where would we be with a president who wanted to reinact the draft & who is against abortion???   What freedoms would people have with a man like this in office?

I don't know about you but I would rather choose to join the military then be force to go (plus I'd like to end the war & not spend gazillions of dollars to stay in Irag) & I would NEVER vote for a MAN telling women what they can do with their bodies.  When a man can get pregnant & have to experience an unplanned pregnancy then they should be able to have control over abortion laws.

I lived by a military base for a LONG time & I do have to say I was absolutely AMAZED at the perks on base.  The neighboring towns were in financial ruin but on base there was EVERYTHING!  I am not saying this is right or wrong, I am saying there are many, many more perks then the pay.  Lower taxes on cigarettes, food, alcohol, etc.  Bars, pools, & practically anything else wanted or needed is right on base.

On the whole "Socialist Russia" comment, geez, do some research!  America is HATED by other countries, Americans are fed propaganda every second of the day about how good we have it & how bad every other country is.  If someone questions it people come out & accuse you of being unAmerican.  Socialized MEDICINE does not mean American will become "Socialist Russia".  Hilary Clinton was all for socialized medicine, that is until she was paid off to back down from her position on it.  I could say so much more but I really don't have the time.
